Still Hot is getting Hotter!
It’s hard to believe that the label Still Hot has only been on the scene for a year. The Still Hot label was spawned from the Boutique DJ agency in Berlin owned by Alex Flatner and Martin Eyerer which bears the same name. Since January 2017 they have put out seven releases but have proven that a policy of quality over quantity is the driving force at Still Hot whom are climbing the Beatport Tech House label chart and are currently sitting at number 37 in the top Beatport Deep House labels after only one year!
It’s no surprise the Still Hot agency turned to releasing music with such artists as Benny Grauer, Gorge, Markus Homm and Mihai Popoviciu to pool from, and they did, their debut release in January 2017 was Insomnis by Markus Homm & Mihai Popoviciu, Followed by a release from Ninetoes and the Alex Flatner which has made Still Hot a go to label for quality Deep & Tech House (and the label artwork is always exceptional too!).
The seventh release on Still Hot comes from a man who needs no introduction, Martin Landsky. If anyone doesn’t know Martin Lansky (if you have been in a coma of living off grid!), he is Berlin based and has been intricately involved in the underground House and Techno scene for over 30 years, he has unrivalled experience that you can hear through all of his music. Landsky had his debut release in 1997 and has exceptional hits such as “Bloodhound” and “1000 Miles” (Poker Flat) which have made him the premier league DJ and Producer that he is today.
Now I’m an old school kind of guy and I have a very effective way of sifting through digital music; if I was listening to this in a record shop, would I buy it? When I heard Martin Landsky’s “Treat Me Bad” on Still Hot, the answer resounding in my head was.. I most certainly would!
Treat Me Bad is a fantastic EP (Beatport Exclusive), with Martin Landsky’s original mix, a hard hitting (and very satisfying) remix from Gorge and a completely different Landsky tune for a b-side (which I think should have had its own release).
Martin Landsky’s “Treat Me Bad” original mix has definitely got balls. Beautifully crafted Tech House (which would probably crossover for a bit of attitude in a Deep House set also).. I get a great feeling of old meets new with this track, it has a touch of old school, vocal is used cleverly and sparingly. A full, crunchy and driving track. Link below to have a listen.
My favourite track of the EP is the Gorge remix! Its one of those tracks that when you play it, people come up and ask; What is that? You could play it in a House set, Deep House Set, Prog Set. It’s bouncy, It’s a floor filler and definitely memorable. Very well put together, more vocal in this one which works perfectly, excellent piece of work. Link below to have a listen.
And finally the B Side! Martin Landsky’s – Blown Fuse.. Now as I mentioned earlier, this should have its own release! I would have loved to see this released as a stand alone with it’s own remixes. Absolutely love the baseline, quite reminiscent of some some of the baselines from the speed garage or DnB genres from the 90’s but Landsky has very slickly married the baseline to a very intelligent House Track. Link below to have a listen.
This really is a quality EP, a must have in any DJs bag (or pen drive these days!). Great release From Landsky and Still Hot, proving that “Still Hot” are getting Hotter..
